Roving from our fiber flock, beautifully prepared by Skagit Woolen Works to go straight onto your wheel or spindle. We offer 4 oz twists of prepared fiber from sheep of various breeds. It’s the perfect way to sample a variety of pure and crossbred fleeces; please contact us if you’d like a larger quantity for a garment or weaving project!
Current stock includes:
North Country Cheviot x BFL/Romney/Sally Bill Special dyed at Skagit Woolen Works. This fiber has both loft and luster and a staple length of about 4”. Very beginner friendly.
Natural mid-brown Finn, staple length 3-3.5”. Very soft and versatile.
Natural black Finn x BFL/Coopworth/Romney/East Friesian, staple length 3-3.5”. This is the crossbred fiber that goes into our popular Spyhop yarn. It has softness, shine, and a little more body than pure Finn.
Currently available:
BFL cross x North Country Cheviot First clip fleeces from Klickitat and Loowit, lambs sired by a BFL x Romney/Sally Bill Special ram on North Country Cheviot mothers. This white fiber is an unusual and inviting blend of longwool with lofty Cheviot. It’s softer and shinier than pure Cheviot, but maintains bounce and liveliness. Staple length is around 4-5” and this versatile wool would be great for beginner spinners. Should take dye beautifully also.
Finn x BFL cross This dark chocolate lambswool is the fiber we use in our Spyhop yarn. It strikes a pleasant chord of softness, luster, and just enough tooth to make for a smooth and enjoyable spinning experience. Spin it woolen for full fluffy goodness or worsted to preserve the shine. Staple length is 3-4”.
Finn Our brown and honey badger Finn youngsters contributed this soft and silky fiber. Finn wool is unusually lustrous for its breed family and is next-to-skin soft for most people. Staple length is 3-4”.
