Riffle
Riffle
Squishy, springy sock yarn from the San Juan Valley—no nylon, no nonsense! This wool comes from crossbred sheep that marry the natural loft and felt resistance of the Suffolk and Cheviot breeds with the longer, stronger staple of Romney and BFL. We bought our neighbor Guard Sundstrom’s lamb clip when he started using a Romney ram on his Suffolk ewes, then added in a few black fleeces from our own North Country Cheviot x BFL/Romney/Sally Bill Special crosses. The result is a beautiful, heathered grey yarn that’s naturally hard wearing and cushy underfoot, ready for your next ramble along a wooded shoreline or for toasting your toes by a cabin woodstove. We’ve divided it into a pair of 200-yard skeins so you won’t have to guess how much to save for the second sock.
Not that you should confine yourself to sock knitting—Riffle would also love to be a neutral ground for colorwork and would pair happily with Shetland wools for vests and jumpers.
